Volcanoes Erupt, Sports Fans Feel the Surge

cascade futbol club, recreation, sports, volcanoes,

Being a good sport is easy to do in Salem.

The city is home to two minor-league sports teams – specifically the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in baseball and the Cascade Surge soccer club.

Both teams have enjoyed good fan support during their respective tenures in town.

The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes arrived in this community in 1996 and are a Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The Volcanoes play in the Northwest League of Professional Baseball and have won their league championship four times.

In 2007, the Volcanoes were also named Minor League Team of the Country, and team officials say the Volcanoes originally chose to locate in Salem because the city is a great community and a government center.

An amazing statistic for the Volcanoes is that during their 13 years in Salem, only five games have been rained out during those seasons that always run from June through September.

Meanwhile, the Cascade Surge is a member of the United Soccer League’s Premier Development League, which attracts top-flight players from around the country and world to play alongside local talent. The Surge plays its games at McCulloch Stadium in Bush’s Pasture Park and has already developed rivalries against teams such as the Yakima Reds, Ogden Outlaws and Spokane Spiders.

The Cascade Surge season runs from mid-May to late July.
